Saturday, 7th June 2025 - MIDLANDS AIR FESTIVAL

Image
Last year I had a ticket for the Midlands Air Festival but,  after being gout-free for a few years, I had a big flare-up and couldn't walk so couldn't attend. Fortunately I was able to sell my ticket so at least I didn't lose out financially.  When tickets for this year's festival were made available, I booked for myself and two friends. It turned out to be a great day with displays by the Red Arrows, BBMF Lancaster and Sally B being my favourites. Unfortunately, because it was a bit breezy, the hot air balloons weren't able to fly. That was disappointing because they would have offered some great photo opportunities in the evening light. Such a shame but it was still a good day and with good company. Here are some of my many photos from the day, starting with the Red Arrows :- BBMF :- B-17 "Sally B" Other displays Thanks for taking the time to look at my blog. Hope you enjoyed the photos. Saturday, 14th JUNE 2025 - MOTO X

Image
I hadn't been to a Moto X event since going with my parents many years ago (it was called scrambling in those days). So I has happy to join Ro and Re for another photo-trip. It was a great day until mid afternnon when the race was stopped due to a rider being taken ill. Although ambulances were in attendance, two blue-light ambulances turned up suggesting it was serious. When an air-ambulance landed, we knew that was the case. Sadly, the rider involved sadly passed away and racing was abandoned for the day. Anyway, here are some shots from before that happened:- And finally, a composite shot I'm very pleased with :- Thanks for looking at my blog Den

Wednesday, 4th JUNE 2025 - BATTERSEA

Image
Due go public demand , well one person mentioned it 😀, I'm going to restart my photography blogging.  I have so many unprocessed photos since my last entry that I think it would be unrealistic to try to fill in the missing months. So I'm restarting with this recent u3a coach trip to Battersea. The coach left at 9am but due to heavy traffic in London, it was about 11.30 before we were dropped off a short walk from the former power station. As we approached,  the exterior of the building appeared to be unchanged. But inside it was a very different story. The two main turbine halls have been converted to shops and food outlets. There's also a cinema but we didn't check that out. I did notice that most of the shops didn't display prices. To me, that suggests that if you need to consider the price you probably can't afford the item  🙂 R and I had pre-booked tickets for Lift 109 at 1pm. Security was quite tight but friendly and after climbing a number of steps, we s...

Wednesday, 11th June 2025 - RAF WADDINGTON & CONINGSBY

Image
Two friends and I had arranged to drive to RAF Waddington for some aviation photography. That base is the home of the famous Red Arrows, the RAF's principal aerobatic display team and there was always a chance of seeing them doing a practise display. On arrival at the W.A.V.E  (Waddington Aircraft Viewing Enclosure), with nothing obvious happening on the base, we enjoyed hot drinks and bacon/sausage baps (this was before being told I'm pre-diabetic LOL). I had expected there to be a permanent cafe there but there was just a mobile unit - I've since found out the original building had become unsafe and was demolished. But not to worry, the van produced a very tasty snack for us, served up by a very friendly lady. With that in our bellies, we started paying more attention to the aircraft. We weren't lucky enough to see a display by the Reds but one or two of them were in the air at time Other aircraft we saw :- RAF Coningsby, home of the BBMF and several Typhoon fighter s...
