Wednesday, 15th November 2023 - Paxton Pits

Today our U3A Woldlife Group visited Paxton Pits.  It's quite an informal group and our meetings are often as much of an excuse to chat as look at wildlife and this month we had a few new members to chat with. 

We looked for fungi in Rory's Wood and then looked for birds from Bobs Bench and the Hayden Hide.  A Kingfisher was spotted in the distance but was too  far away to photograph. I did get a chance to try out my new camera's focus-tracking when a swan took off coming slightly towards us.  Results were encouraging. 





There were also some fungi. I didn't have my fungi-gear with me but I tried anyway ...

Friday, 8th March 2024 - HATFIELD WATER MILL

Today, the U3A Photography Group visited the Water Mill at Hatfield. Unfortunately any catering facilities they may have were not open today so we met in the nearby Tesco cafe for the almost essential coffee before going to the mill, ready for some photography.    The inside of the mill was lit by sodium lamps. They might be good for the eye but not for colour photography.  To avoid those problems, I processed these images in black & white and then added a sepia tint which I thought suited the subject. Sunday , 4th February 2024 - Farewell Band Gang, Hello Band Crew

Well, we went to the Anchor for lunch today as the Band Gang, had a very enjoyable meal, and then departed renamed as the Band Crew. Apparently the original name could somehow get confused with another "activity".  It's beyond me but if someone could explain it to me I'd be most grateful  😜 _____________________
